    Restoration West - Phil Polter began his career in historic preservation after attending a window restoration workshop that followed NKY Restoration Weekend in 2017. One of the leaders of the workshop, Jim Turner (Turner Restoration - Detroit, MI), inspired Phil to pursue window restoration as a profession. While with Centennial Preservation Group (Columbus, OH), Phil further honed his skills on local and national landmarks at Union Terminal and the Russell Senate Building. He founded Restoration West in 2021, which specializes in wood and steel window restoration for the Greater Cincinnati area. Phil also focuses on education as the instructor for wood and steel window restoration courses at Covington Academy of Heritage Trades.

    Hempleman Contracting - Eric has worked around tradesmen his whole life with an interest in construction and working with his hands. For three years after high school, he worked for a larger roofing company before attending the University of Cincinnati. At UC, he began studies in the engineering program but found himself quickly returning to the field. He transferred his major to secondary social studies to teach history. He combined his two passions by continuing work in the field of historic preservation while having the opportunity to share skill sets and knowledge with homeowners and fellow tradesmen alike.   • Beth Johnson

    Cincinnati Preservation - Beth Johnson has been the Executive Director of Cincinnati Preservation Association for 4 years and came to CP from her position as the urban conservator for the City of Cincinnati, a position she held for more than six years. She has also worked in preservation and planning for the City of Covington, KY as well the cities of San Antonio and Austin, TX. She is a graduate of Ball State University where she received a degree in urban planning and history with a minor in historic preservation. She received her master’s degree in historic preservation planning from Cornell.

    City of Newport - Newport Historic Preservation Officer Jennifer Williams has been a lover of historic sites and museums since her childhood, and she considers herself terrifically lucky to get to work in historic preservation today. A Northern Kentucky native, Jennifer is working on her Master’s in Public History as well as her Master’s in Public Administration. She has worked with museums and historic sites for 12 years and served on a historic preservation commission herself from 2019-2022.

    Comey & Shepherd - Rebecca is a full time Realtor® licensed in both Ohio and Kentucky with a passion for historic architecture and urban living. Rebecca joined Comey & Shepherd’s City Office in OTR in 2021 and ranked 3rd in sales for the company in 2022 and 4th in 2023. She has just celebrated her 24th anniversary of being a licensed Realtor.

    When Navy retirees Jim and Bev McPhail relocated from Connecticut to Bellevue, KY, in 2017, they bought an old house in the Fairfield Avenue Historic District and set about researching its history. They also helped friends with research. As they did, they learned to overcome many of the obstacles that often hinder such research.

    The McPhails served on the History Committee of the Bellevue Sesquicentennial Commission. They’ve held seminars on researching the history of homes and their occupants, including field trips to the courthouse with the attendees. In 2019, they were named "Preservation Heroes" as part of the River Cities Excellence in Preservation Awards.

  • Terry Wullenweber

    Wullenweber & Sons, Plastering of Milan, IN - Terry Wullenweber, third generation plasterer and owner of Wullenweber & Sons, Plastering of Milan, IN has owned and operated the family owned business since 1972. Terry has devoted his life to specializing in Decorative, Ornamental, Conventional and Veneer Plaster coatings. Much of his work can be seen on the interiors of Indiana State Museum Sites, quite notably the most intricate of is the Culbertson Mansion, in New Albany, IN. Wullenweber & Sons, Plastering has completed projects within the state of Indiana as well as Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan and Wisconsin. He takes pride and skill at replicating existing ornamental plasterwork that also has been destroyed and/or missing as well as create new and artistically designed pieces. Terry is active in promoting the hands-on trades and has conducted workshops for all ages for Indiana Landmarks, Historic Madison, Inc., Kentucky Heritage Council, Preservation Trades Network and the Commonwealth Preservation Trades School.

    Kentucky Heritage Council - L. RaShae Jennings is the Historic Preservation Coordinator for the Kentucky Heritage Council and State Historic Preservation Office in Frankfort, KY. She received her master’s degree from the Folk Studies Department at Western Kentucky University with her focus being on Historic Preservation. With her position, she performs architectural history research and documentation for cultural historic projects statewide for the section 106 process. She responds to formal submissions of documents to determine whether cultural historic investigations are warranted following state and federal laws related to cultural resource management.

  • Tom Covert

    Covert Design Build - AIA Associate. Designer and Builder - Tom, a native of Southern Ohio, started in the construction industry as a carpenter at the early age of 19. His assignments focused on building new houses and renovating old homes for a prominent home builder involving himself in all facets of residential construction. It was through this experience that he found his passion for the industry and desire to learn more about not only construction, but the design and art involved in the industry as well.  He earned an Associates Degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design, then moved to Cincinnati to pursue an Architectural Engineering Degree from the University of Cincinnati’s College of Engineering. During his undergraduate studies he found himself drawn to the historic architecture that is so prominent throughout Cincinnati, thus earning a certificate in Historic Preservation from UC’s College of Design, Art, Architecture, & Planning (DAAP). To complete his professionally accredited education, Tom earned his Master of Architecture degree from DAAP.  Tom has worked in NYC for a prominent architectural firm, as well as for a multitude of design firms here in Cincinnati. Tom is a proponent of modern design, but has a sensitivity and appreciation for historic architecture.     Knight Stained Glass - Andrea began her career in glass as an apprentice at a Wisconsin studio in 1999. Since then, she has worked in several studios across Ohio and Pennsylvania, mastering the crafts of restoration and repair. In 2023 she opened Knight Stained Glass in Norwood, OH. Her portfolio includes the restoration of courthouse domes and large-scale church works, as well as custom-designed windows and repairs for commercial and residential settings. Andrea’s passion lies in restoration—maintaining the aesthetic of the original design while paying meticulous attention to the smallest detail.

  • Nicole Roth

    Kentucky Heritage Council - Nicole Roth is the Site Identification Program Administrator at the Kentucky Heritage Council, where she also serves as the Certified Local Government Coordinator and Preservation Planner. With a background in archaeology, academia, and nonprofit work, she brings a broad perspective to historic preservation. A Kentucky native and lover of old buildings, Nicole enjoys working with communities to preserve the places that matter to them.

  • Jay Stottman

    Kentucky Heritage Council- A native of Louisville and the assistant director of the Kentucky Archaeological Survey. I have a BA from the University of Louisville and a MA and Ph.D. from the University of Kentucky. I am a historical archaeologist with specific interests in urban archaeology, farmsteads, plantations, the archaeology of enslavement, and architecture history. I also work in public archaeology designing and developing public outreach and education programs. I have dedicated much of my archaeology to engaging with communities and being an activist archaeologist.   • Kaitlin Bryan

    City of Covington - Growing up in the heart of the Bluegrass, Kaitlin has always had an interest in old buildings. Her interest in architecture and local history ultimately led to her career in historic preservation. Kaitlin received a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of Kentucky and a Certificate of Preservation Studies from Tulane University. Prior to her tenure with the City of Covington, she worked at Habitat for Humanity as the home repair program coordinator.
